Speech Pathology

Find Your Voice. Connect With Confidence.

At Delton Health Care, our speech pathologists work with children and adults who experience difficulties with communication, language, or swallowing. These are not issues that sit quietly in the background. They affect how people connect with family, express their needs, participate in mealtimes, and take part in the world around them. When communication breaks down, the impact is felt across almost every area of life.

We provide practical, evidence-based speech pathology services tailored to each person’s age, goals, and circumstances. Whether the challenge is a developmental language delay in a toddler, a swallowing difficulty following a stroke, or a communication change related to a progressive neurological condition, our team has the skills and experience to help.

  • Speech and language assessments for children and adults
  • Swallowing assessments and mealtime management plans
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) support and training
  • Early childhood language and literacy development
  • Voice disorders and stuttering therapy
  • NDIS and aged care funding accepted

Our Speech Pathology Services

Paediatric Speech and Language

Children develop communication skills at different rates, but when delays or difficulties are present, early support makes a real difference to long-term outcomes. Our paediatric speech pathologists work with children experiencing late talking, language delays, unclear speech, stuttering, literacy challenges, and social communication difficulties.

We use play-based and child-friendly approaches to keep sessions engaging and effective, and we involve families throughout so that the work done in sessions continues to build at home and at school.

  • Early language development and late talking support
  • Speech sound disorders and articulation therapy
  • Stuttering assessment and fluency building
  • Literacy and phonological awareness programs
  • Autism spectrum disorder and social communication support
  • School readiness and classroom participation

Adults can experience communication difficulties for many reasons, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, degenerative neurological conditions, head and neck cancer, or simply the changes that come with ageing. The impact on a person’s confidence, relationships, and sense of self can be significant.

Our speech pathologists work with adults to restore as much communication function as possible, develop practical strategies for managing ongoing challenges, and support the people around them to communicate more effectively too.

  • Aphasia therapy following stroke or brain injury
  • Cognitive communication support
  • Voice disorders and dysarthria management
  • Progressive neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease and motor neurone disease
  • Communication partner training for families and carers
  • Telehealth delivery for clients with access limitations

Swallowing difficulties can develop following a stroke, surgery, neurological condition, or as part of the ageing process. Left unmanaged, dysphagia carries serious risks including aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition, and dehydration.

Our speech pathologists conduct clinical swallowing assessments and develop mealtime management plans that are both safe and respectful of each person’s food preferences and dignity. We also work closely with our dietitians where nutritional needs require a coordinated approach.

  • Clinical swallowing assessments
  • Modified texture diet planning and mealtime support
  • Enteral feeding management guidance
  • Carer and family education on safe feeding techniques
  • Collaboration with dietitians for complex nutritional needs

For people who are non-verbal or have severely limited verbal communication, AAC provides a pathway to connection and self-expression. Our speech pathologists assess each person’s communication needs, trial appropriate AAC systems, and provide the training needed for clients, families, and support workers to use them effectively.

  • High-tech and low-tech AAC device assessment and prescription
  • Symbol and picture-based communication systems
  • Voice output device setup and training
  • Ongoing AAC coaching for clients and their support networks

Where Words Meet Wellbeing

Communication shapes every part of life. How people connect with family, express their needs, ask for help, and take part in conversation. When that becomes difficult, the impact goes far beyond words.

Our speech pathologists work across home care and residential settings, supporting clients at the stage of life and level of need where their skills are most valuable.
